btgroves
1/3 Rack Width (6.33") (160.78mm) & 1/4 Rack Width (4.75") (120.65mm) equipment sizes are becoming very common, is it possible these options could be added to the default options in the ConnectCAD Device OIP under the sub-section "Physical" ? 1 Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Conrad Preen Posted August 31 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted August 31 Hi @btgroves This has come up before and I will certainly consider it. Here's the current rational for what it's worth. Half-rack gear is drawn with mounting lugs left or right depending on where the equipment is in relation to the center-line of the rack. 1/3 rack and 1/4 rack gear would have to also calculate the middle cases. All this has more to do with history than anything else. I created 1/2 rack gear because most broadcast CCU's were that size and came with a side-by-side mounting kit (annoyingly a separate order item...) comprising 2 ears and bolts to stick 2 CCU's together. Since then we have created the Rack Frame object that can be configured to accommodate 3 or 4 across. And now we also have the rack tray version of this object that is visually less obtrusive. So I do ask myself if we haven't basically got this covered. You are going to need some mounting hardware for these guys aren't you? Your thoughts? Conrad Quote Link to comment
btgroves
@Conrad Preen I will admit I wasn't as educated on these options for using a "Rack Frame" device, I've spent some time working with this, I do realize this is not considered an "Equipment Item" this is a primary reason I was requesting the options in the HeightRU field. We have a few reports that run on Equipment Item Records and Sort by Equipment Rack/Drop Point Records, since these Rack Frame devices they don't show up in our custom reports but we certainly could adjust the criteria to also find these items. Helpful information, thank you for the suggestions! Edited September 17 by btgroves Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Conrad Preen Posted September 18 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted September 18 @btgroves Glad to be of help. Have a look at how the standard ConnectCAD Parts Report works . We use various custom worksheet functions in there that might be of interest. If you find yourself missing some function let me know. It's quite easy for us to add these. Conrad Quote Link to comment
