Creating graded bridge over DTM landscape

Recommended Posts

I am trying to create a boardwalk which runs over a landscape for which I have created a DTM. I need the boardwalk to float over the DTM without modifying it but I need the boardwalk to follow a set gradient.  I can create this using a hardscape but am struggling to get the profile correct.  If I set the start and end elevations the hardscape is twisted which is not what I need. If I use it as a planar pad the slope can be set but it is sloping across the boardwalk rather than down it.  Also as it's curved I'm not sure how accurate this would be.

Is there a better way to create this?  The boardwalk is winding through trees so is not straight but curved.  Would it be better to use a roadway, a tool which I have not used before?  I can use the gradient tool to modify the DTM but can I also use it to modify a hardscape which is not part of the DTM?

Screenshots below. The brown area is the boardwalk which sits above the model surface. The grey is a road on the model surface.  I need the boardwalk to meet the road at both ends at an approx grade of 1:20.

thanks for your advice

Helen

Hi Helen,

I think that the Hardscape Pathway tool in boundary configuration would work well for what you are looking for - where you can independently grade it as you see fit (both longitudinal and transverse) without having it affect the site model.

I think you could also use the Roadway tool....but it I think it would be a bit more involved to make it work as you want.
