Existing Tree Colour

BTG

Question

I am new to Landmark so I apologise this is a very basic issue with a likely easy fix.  I have hunted around the internet for a solution to my problem but I am yet to find anything that touches on exactly what I am looking to do.

I wish to change the pen line of an existing tree, in this case it would be to red, to indicate that the tree is proposed for removal.   I would have thought this could be done through the palettes>attributes panel.  However any time that I select the colour I wish to use, the 2d existing tree icon still comes out as the standard black.  I have tried changing it with the item selected, I have tried changing the colour then adding the item, and I have also tried setting the colour to the default attribute.

If possible, I would like to know if I can default this option for all trees that selected to be removed can be shown as red, and perhaps the same for all trees that to be retained.

You need to assign a unique symbol for the Remove condition and then edit that symbol.  You could place the geometry for the symbol on a Class that is unique for the demo condition and set the attributes of the geometry to bylcass, this would give you the most useful level of universal graphic control if you use multiple symbols for the Remove condition.  Alternatively, you could just edit the symbol's geometries attributes directly, which is fine if you are only using one symbol for any plant that has the Remove condition.

Attached is an example file using the Byclass approach.  You can change the graphics of the symbol by modifying the L-PLNT-DEMO class.demo tree symbol.vwx

Thanks for this answer Jeff.

Unfortunately it is still not working for me.   I have attached my file to show exactly what I have selected for the attributes.

I have set the attributes to what I wish the class to show, however nothing changes and my "removed" tree is still showing as greyed out.

I feel the solution is very simple, however I am struggling to troubleshoot it.

The solution I provided used classes and the Existing Tree Symbol to accomplish what I thought you said you needed.  When I open the file you posted, it does not have any Existing Tree Symbols in it, rather just exploded blocks and circles representing trees, so your problem look more like a 2D linework classification exercise.  You can make classes for Demo, Existing, Relocate, etc.  You can then make the attributes of those classes graphically unique.  Finally, you can select the exploded blocks and circles, assign them to a class, and then set the object attributes to "by class".  The objects will inherit the properties of the class, just like the Existing Tree Symbol example I posted earlier in this thread.

The attributes of your objects in the drawing that are representing the trees (red and blue circles I presume) do not have their attributes set to "by class", hence their graphic attributes will not change when moving them to different classes.

hope it helps,

Jeff
