When cropping a viewport, show objects outside the crop (in grayscale)

MGuilfoile

Question

At present, this only works in wireframe which is not helpful because no one renders Viewports in wireframe. There is a box to check to "view objects outside viewport," but it does not do anything--unless you switch your Viewport to "Wireframe" rendering. So, the info box is there. Let's make it work for 2025.

Hmmmm...not sure why it isn't working for me either. There are several things that seem to be unique to my installation...and have remained so for several SP upgrades. For example, the texture map Apply to Face mode works less than half the time. It never works on the extruded sides of a polygon. What I mean is, if I draw a hexagon, give it a fil and extrude it, the only faces where the Apply to Face work are the top and bottom hexagons. The six 3D rectangles making up the sides all act as a single face. There are other things that are mostly minor, but a little annoying since it was not this way before the accelerated release dates of the subscription era. I still like the software better than anything else I've tried, especially for the price.

The area outside of the crop does not show for Renderworks Styles, or any of the Renderworks modes (Artistic, Fast, Final).  It does work with Shaded Polygon mode. I did not test all the modes.

I think the Renderworks does not show what is beyond the crop is because it does not take the time to render anything that is outside the crop. A reasonable with might be to show the wireframe version of what is outside the crop.

But the workaround I would use for not to allow you to adjust your crop is Viewport Styles.  If you need to adjust the crop, save the current Style of the viewport (or better yet be using a style already). Then change the render mode to Shaded, (or to a different Style that does show outside the crop). Adjust the crop and then set the Style back.
