Trying to open a file but it says its already open...?

mariajosel

Question

Hello,

I have been having this problem when trying to open this specific file. I have already saved is as a new file but I keep having this popping up. As you can see in the picture there are no other files open, but it still says that the file I am trying to open is already being used.

The problem really stops when I quit Vectorworks but I believe there should be another way to fix this without having to close the files I am working on, just to quit and open this one.

I am a little bit new to Vectorworks so any answers could be helpful.

Thanks.

This bug was introduced in VW 2024 SP7, and still persists in VW 2025 Update 1. Very annoying. I mentioned it to VW support when VW 2025 came out; they said it should be fixed in the next update. It hasn't been. What makes this even more infuriating is that even though we are (longtime) VW Service Select subscribers, we can't go any further than VW 2024 SP6 until this gets fixed.

@mariajosel We believe that Apple’s new large file preview functionality is causing our files to remain locked after the preview is generated. We are actively collaborating with Apple to resolve this issue. In the meantime, switching to a grid or list view in the Finder prevents the file from being locked. We will keep you updated on any progress or changes.
