Numerous Walls Linear Footage

totalduder

Question

I select one wall, I see the linear footage of the wall in the OIP. When I select more than one, it shows me nothing. I just need a quick calculation on linear footage of walls when I select more than one. What am I missing? Thanks in advance!

Seems reasonable to me.

You just want the total of the individual wall lengths as reported in the OIP, in the same way as the total lenght of a number of selected lines is shown, or areas of selected polygons etc.

Exactly this.

I don't think VW will do what you want.

What length to you want?  The center line of the wall? Left side? Right side?

I think VW's general opinion is that in a case where there are so many possible requirements it is better to provide nothing than possibly the wrong info.

Appreciate the response. I'm a set designer for movies and tv shows. The most basic thing we need to begin a build is overall linear footage for each set once it's drawn/approved. If the program is providing the length for each wall instantly in the OIP when selected, why wouldn't it include the overall when they're all selected? We have zero time to do anything in my industry, starting with making additional worksheets to calculate things that should be immediately on screen. At any rate, thanks again for responding, I do appreciate it!

Hello,

Pat is right when he suggests there is not necessarily an obvious length for a wall. Depending on mitres or curved walls for instance is it the inside or outside and so on. Enclosed is a quick file with two worksheets. One that calculates the length as defined by the wall itself but for only visible walls. The other is for selected walls only. Note for that one the worksheet has to be open otherwise a selected wall will be de-selected when right clicking and recalculating the report. As a resource they can be used time and again.

I hope this helps.

Hello Peter

Huge thanks for the attached worksheet files and the time taken to answer the question. That solved my issue and quickly. Will be implementing worksheets into my own work flow more so into the future, very helpful.

Best

Mike
