Ziska
Tell me this is already a plug in *somewhere* and all I need to do is bleed my wallet and buy it... The ability to make a polyline out of a non-text object- like a trademark'd logo in an Illustrator file. Ziska Quote Link to comment
0 Bart Rammeloo
If you want proper (vector based) import of AI files, well, that's not yet been implemented. However, if you want bitmap tracing, that has been in VW for quite some time. Cheers, BaRa Quote Link to comment
0 Kevin
There is a product of which I have not used. Adobe Streamline says that it will convert a scan to editable line art. Don't know if this is what you are looking for. Look on Adobe's website for info. Quote Link to comment
0 Ziska
Unfortunately the line art will not convert to a polyline. These logos need to be extruded....they need to become 3D objects. Ziska Quote Link to comment
0 MullinRJ
Ziska, How many logos and how complicated are they? If you could you send me one, perhaps I might be able to help. I won't really know without seeing the exact format of your data. Raymond Quote Link to comment
0 propstuff
Ziska, The wierd situation of VW importing AI files as a bitmap and not vectors has been noted in the past. If your logos are exported out of AI as high contrast black and white bitmaps, and especially if they can have the elements exported as different layers, the Trace Bitmap command should do a reasonable job of turning them into poly's. 0 AndyM
If you have illustrator you can export as a dwg file and import the vector artwork that way. It works great fot pdf's also. Quote Link to comment
0 Ziska
Nicholas, Did the bitmap trace- very ugly result- criss crossed points *everywhere*. Andy dwg results in one big black rectangle. pdf imports as a jpg? Quote Link to comment
0 Ziska
Katie- Snap to loci was turned off. A .pct saved in Illustrator imports as a black rectangle. Ziska Quote Link to comment
0 AndyM
Try changing the color mode in Illustrator from CMYK to RGB then export as a dwg file. This has worked for me in the past. I have also used this to get vector data from pdf files. Quote Link to comment
0 Guest
Turn the preview off when saving the PICT in illustrator. You should also try to save it as a 8bit preview or any of the other preview options. Quote Link to comment
0 Guest
Go to FIle.Preferences.VW Prefs and turn off Snap to Loci. Quote Link to comment
0 Guest
You can also import a PICT (which is a file format used commonly for logos in various graphic applications) and then use trace bitmap to achieve the desired result. Quote Link to comment
