digitalcarbon
Can someone direct me to a chart that has Metric Pipe (Stainless Steel) Remember tubing and pipe are not the same thing. Also are Metric Pipes based on imperial pipe? Example DN 300 Pipe is (I'm told) is 304.8mm ID and 323.85mm OD. I was really hoping to have a clean break from the imperial muck & have DN 300 Pipe be 300mm ID and 324mm OD or some clean state. trying to build a library thanks Quote Link to comment
Pat Stanford
This is the best chart I have found for comparison between ISO and ASTM pipe sizes. As far are I know, the external diameter of pipe is the same in both ASTM and ISO systems and the actual diameter really does not have anything to do with the actual diameter of the pipe. DIN pipe is different, but since the EU has come in, DIN is not as common as it used to be. All 2" pipe has the same OD. And 50mm ISO pipe has the same OD as 2" ASTM pipe. Ask again if you need more help. I have been dealing with this for 30+ years. https://vmsteel.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/wall_thickness_table.pdf Quote Link to comment

Pat, can you explain this to me? DIN is what I was lead to believe was the metric standard but then I stumbled into ISO 21.3 for example. Quote Link to comment
digitalcarbon
@Pat Stanford I figured it out...Been using the built-in AI in my Skype to answer questions. Do you have any recommendation for an AI chat that can act as a research assistant? Edited July 25, 2024 by digitalcarbon Quote Link to comment
Pat Stanford
I pay the $20/month ChatGPT and have been pleased with the results. But apparently the latest release of Llama this week is supposed to be even better if you don't mind sharing data with Meta/Zuckerberg. Pipe is really weird because it does not match what it is called in any unit. DIN was the German standard before Euro Integration. ISO is the now standard for metric. The names are close to the real sizes, but much more challenging than tube which is actual OD size. Quote Link to comment
