I disagree. I like the fact that the new copy remains selected, so you can quickly make a lot of offsets at the same distance.

To do what you want, just keep one hand on the mouse, and the index and second fingers of the other hand on the shortcut keys for Select and Offset.

1. Select the offset tool, create the first offset.

2. Press and hold the space bar and X key to get a temporary selection tool.

3. Release those keys and you are right back to the offset tool.

PS: Please, Please, Please NNA!

Make the offset tool create a polyline from a polyline, even if it can only be implemented when you have arc vertices!
