Seeded Area/Seed Mix options for Landscape Area Styles

yasin2ray

Question

Landscape Area Styles do not appear to be able to handle a seed mix. I need Landscape Areas for lawn seed and a native plant seed mix.

Landscape Area Styles focus on a single or multiple plant species. it's based on the 'Plant Record'. I don't want to use a plant symbol as a seed mix. I'd have to price the seed mix by cost per square foot instead of 'x pounds per 1000 square feet'. That's too wonky.

How do you calculate areas of landscape that will receive seed? Or a mix of two seed types?

Use the area from the Landscape Area and multiply it by the Unit Cost (which I like to specify in $/s.f. for this type of material)

I create seed mix specs for different areas and figure out what those unit costs will be, it's not much work and will update automatically if you change the areas.

In a WS use plant count and plant spacing to determine sq ft area and set a multiplier for lbs of seed per sq ft.

@bgoff:

Are you saying to make a plant symbol for each plant in the seed mix?

That would be 40 plants in one seed mix and 43 plants in the other seed mix, and we specify a blend of the two seed mixes. I'd rather not try to make a plant mix to match what we specify.

How would recommend I get volume of seed mix needed? I have this set up already with my own record format but it would be nice to be able to make more use of Landscape Area Styles, which use Landscape Areas.

Thanks,

Anna
