ErTech
Hello, I'm using colors in my plots to have a better and quicker overview of which fixture is hung where. I'm now assigning color by class to each group of fixture. In the "Equipment Summary Key" I use the "Used plug-in objects" to keep the colors on the summary key. It works well but I can't edit any names easily and I have the mention "Light instr" in front of each name (but not in front of profiles???), I wish to get rid of this unnecessary mention. How can I do that ? I tried to change things into the "Lighting symbol maintenance" or in the "Object info -> symbol name" without success. What am I doing wrong ? Thanks in advance ! Vectorworks, Inc Employee jcogdell Posted June 24 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted June 24 This is happening because the 'Light instr' is baked into the name of the symbols. Though I have no idea why its handling the E-910's differently from the movers The easiest way to fix this is to edit the symbol names in the resource manager, removing 'Light Instr' from them. If you use the Batch rename command it will do all the symbols in one go for you. Since the symbol key will think these are new lights after renaming them you will need to rebuild the symbol key afterwords for the renamed lights to be correctly displayed. 2 Quote Link to comment

You can also use the symbol version vs. the plug-in version of the symbol. This reads the instrument type vs. the symbol name. 2 Quote Link to comment

Ben Shotton
I'm also having difficulty with this. I tried editing the symbol names in the resource browser as suggested above but this then removed them from the build list so I had to re-edit all of the symbol names. The field that is referenced by the instrument summary in the Light Symbol Maintenance window is not editable as I'm sure it used to be. Any ideas? Quote Link to comment

Peter Smith
If you select "Used Plug In Objects" to build your list, the key will display the symbol Name, so you need to edit that name in the Resource Browser. If you choose "Used Equipment Symbols", the key uses the Object Name instead, which can be edited in the Spotlight>Lighting Reports>Lighting Symbol Maintenance window. The "Type" Cell is where you edit this. NOTE- This will remove the item from your key, so you have to go back to the Build List command Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee jcogdell Posted September 6 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted September 6 This has been addressed in 2025, Spotlight library resource naming has been revised to remove light instument from the symbol name. The same has been done across the board for all the Spotlight libraries, to bring our libraries in line with manufacturer naming. 1 Quote Link to comment
