Jeff Prince
Do you have the original, unaltered, file provided by the engineer? If so, post that and perhaps we can recommend a better import method. Quote Link to comment
Poot
It is always important to have good input to get good output, whatever program is used. In this case, seeing as you're origin point is far away (probably to the 0,0 of the coordinate system) you can use the geolocate tool to set the 'internal origin' nearby your site, and then change back to the user origin when it is needed to be exported again. Internal Origin = project/custom origin for project User Origin = 0,0 of coordinate system Since you are just in the process of getting things sorted, if you create a new file to import the clean data from the surveyor or with the original file, you can set the coordinate system in Document Preferences behorehand. (File - Document Settings - Georeferencing). If you start from scratch with this, it is easy to import the DWG and then use the geolocate tool with one click to set an internal origin close by (within 5km). This will speed things up if working on a large site, and avoid problemes in 3d as some have mentioned. VW is the easiest CAD program out there to make site models, but if the incoming data is a problem it will be headache no matter what. Doesn't take long to figure out the basics, and its usually pretty smooth sailing after that. Edited June 23, 2024 by Poot Quote Link to comment
