When creating Site Modifier the modifier or a part of the site modifier ends up far away from the intended location.

POP

Question

Is there a setting that is sending site modifiers far away from the intended location.  This has been causing other issues with rendering "noise" (see thread below). I have to locate them and delete the site modifiers.  I can manually move the site modifier to its intended location but theres has to be some simple setting that im missing or simple user error.

Thanks

Pablo

I have never seen this happen. Can you explain exactly how it occurs?

Sometimes in a georeferenced file in a 3D view I will mistakenly draw geometry without snapping to an object or working plane + it ends up miles away + causes the glitching you're talking about but I'm not sure this would happen with a Site Modifier...

I have tried creating the site modifier in both plan and isometric and both instances it creates it far away.  The elevation setting seems to be correct but it seems to send it a mile away and I have to drag it back.  Maybe I am unknowingly snapping to something (possibly from the survey import linework???)

Tom you might be onto something.  I did import a DWG survey file and that might have some sort of a geo reference unbeknownst to me.  Ill try removing all info from the survey import and try again with the modifiers.

Thanks for the responses!

OK  I removed any info from the imported survey dwg file and when I create a Retaining Wall Site Modifier it still creates a portion if itself way out to the nethers - I then Select All - It zooms way out until site is a pin point,  Invert Select command and the only thing selected is the recently made Retaining Wall Site Modifier.  See attached screenshot.

Cheers

I don't use Retaining Wall Site Modifiers much but have been playing around now + if I run the command in Top/Plan the modifier is created as expected - around the selected object - but in 3D view it ends up a long way away like you describe. But you say it's happening in Top/Plan too? Is it only with the Create Retaining Wall Site Modifier command that this is happening or other modifiers? Your original post cast the net a lot wider. Also, in your screenshot it looks like a Top view rather than Top/Plan. If it is Top then this is 3D + will give the same far off results.

It was always the case that if you created a site model in a 3D view the DTM would be created in the wrong location + this feels like a similar thing so probably best to just do everything in Top/Plan (I say used to be the case because I think in a recent Update this was corrected but not sure if I've tested it since).

you do realize there’s a difference between Top vs Top/Plan right?

just asking because your image shows you are in top view.

YES ok my bad.  I thought I was in top/plan view for the modifier command but I wasn't.  I was in top/plan to create the geometry FOR THE Create Site Wall Retaining Wall Modifier THEN I would change to an isometric view!  THEN thats when things got weird.  I had to go thru my steps from earlier to see my errors!

Thanks for helping me realize the way.

Cheers!
