Kevin Huynh
Greetings, I created a nurbs surface with the loft surface tool but now I'm stuck figuring out how to close it because I'd like to subtract solids from it as well. Also, I couldn't use the shell solid command on this nurbs surface. Any ideas on how to approach this? Quote Link to comment
Benson Shaw
Shootin’ from the hip here, not testing (maybe later). That’s a nice wavy surface. Is it a single NURBS Surface? Or a group? You need holes in it? I think Section Solids might work. Post a file if possible Some things to try: Section Solids instead of Subtract. Or Loft again, but choose the Create Solid option, then try subtract or section. Or Convert the surface to a generic solid (Modify menu>Convert). Then try Subtract or Section. Also try Shell this Generic to some small thickness, then Subtract or Section. Or Select the surface, then Add Solids and try the above. Or PushPull the surface for some small thickness, then try Subtract or Section. Or ????? -B Quote Link to comment

BartH
My guess is that your surface has some overlapping (or nearly overlapping) geometry. Any attempt to make it a solid results in a failed solid. The bottom edge of your surface looks like it is pulled to one side. You might try to reconstruct the NURBS, or edit the control points to remove overlapping surfaces. Then you should be able to shell and subtract as needed. Quote Link to comment
VIRTUALENVIRONS
I think I know what he is trying to do. His model is a curtain for lack of a better explanation. I think when he says "close", he means close as in a closing a 2D polygon. Then he would have a solid after he lofts. This is easy enough for a NURBS curves, but it is time to hear from the original user what he needs. Posting the file would be good. Quote Link to comment
Kevin McAllister
If all that's required is some holes in the NURBS surface, the Project tool is the right tool for the job. Kevin 2 Quote Link to comment

Hi Kevin No one is quite sure what this fellow is trying to do, as he won't tell us. 1 Quote Link to comment
