Cable List Data Tag

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to create a floor plan view with a way to show the labels of network ports at wall patch locations. It seems the Cable List from a Cable Path object is going to be the simplest way to accomplish this. I've tried this and it doesn't seem to work when using the Edit Cabling Command. It only seems to work when using the Cabling Tool.

Is there a way to have this data tag field also work with the edit cabling command or is it only able to be used with the cabling tool?

- Hello @Rabbit Abbott,

Can you please share a test document showing what you are trying to get?

Thanks,

@Nikolay Zhelyazkov here you go! I've used two different methods of adding cables to the cable route and two different data tags. Let me know if there's anymore information you need or if you have still any questions of what I'm trying to do.

Like I mentioned before, I noticed this does work with the 'Cable' Tool.

Thanks!

- So you want to get the circuit data in the cable path data tag? Like what you see with the edit cabling tool?

These are 2 different concepts - one is the physical cables that can follow a cable path and the other is the schematic circuits that can use a cable path as their physical route in ConnectCAD.

Yes, I just need a way to label the cables or "ports" at the drop point, so that when looking at the floor plan layout we know which ports are at that drop point.

I attached a pdf for an example. They just have little tick marks and then the ports labeled. I'm looking to accomplish that but the ticks would be the drop point symbol instead.

- Sorry for the delayed answer. Have you tried the Create Cabling Sheet and Create Riser Sheet menu commands? They might get you what you want.

If not, you can add this data manually to a custom record attached to the drop points and visualize it in the viewport using data tags.

I did try both of those and they don't return a list of cables. Is there something I'm missing or does it not work when using the 'Edit Cabling' command?

These commands are creating viewports and attaching some additional records to the cable paths and adding data tags that show the values from these records. You can add custom fields to these records and make the data tag show them instead.

I'm just trying to get it to pull the 'Cable' field though. I feel like I shouldn't need a custom field for that, right?

That's why I feel like I'm missing something or going about it the wrong way...

If you look in the attached screen shot those are the cables in the cable path but it's not returning the list when using those commands you recommended. Shouldn't it return the list of cables?

@Rabbit Abbott try this,

Edit the data tag style 'CC Home Run Cabling Tag' and/or 'CC Cabling Tag'. Enter the tag's layout and open 'Define Tag Field' for the text in there. Then, change the formula to read from 'Cable IDs' instead of 'Summary'. Then when you create cabling sheet, the created data tags sill report the cable numbers of the circuits that go through the cable paths. If I understood you correctly this is what you want to achieve?
