Ben3B
Hello what is the best way to import c4d files ? This is not possible directly in Vector, so what is the better way to achieve it ? I work with designer who works in cinema 4d , so i need to import the design to make the technical folder ... Must they export from C4d to another format ? witch one is the "better" in your opinion ? Or do you know a software I can use to convert c4d in a format accepted by vector ? thanks! Quote Link to comment
Kevin K
Ben I use C4d in conjunction with VW and it can be a bit tricky. In most instances, since it appears you do not have C4d, if you can ask that person you are working with to export to either .OBJ or .3DS, or both, that will probably be your best bet. There will still need to be some tweaking done to those files once imported into VW, but depending on exactly what you are doing on your end, it should work. A lot of it will have to do with materials, and textures coming from C4d. I am not aware of any software that can convert C4d files to VW directly, or convert C4d files to other formats that VW can import. Probably not what you wanted to hear. 😞 If that C4d file is not too huge, maybe post it and I am happy to open it in C4d and have a look, etc. Quote Link to comment
Ben3B
Thanks i'll ask to the file owner to export it in .OBJ or .3DS Quote Link to comment
Kevin K
@Ben3B That would be a good start, but be mindful that importing those files may still need some massaging, plus the imported files will be much larger than the original C4d file. Quote Link to comment
Kevin K
It is a bit unfortunate that currently there is not a C4d import option offered within VW. That would sure make life easier! The export to C4d option works very well….we just need to get it to work the other way around. 🙂 Quote Link to comment
VIRTUALENVIRONS
I also use C4D and VW's and have used it in both directions, but it is as @Kevin K described, needs massaging depending on what you are trying to accomplish. Keep in mind that no matter what format you choose to export from C4D, they will come in as blocks of individual polygons. Some formats will group them, others not, so again depends on what you are doing. Normally you can use add solids to connect the polygons and speed things up. The C4D to VW's will work fine if you are the one doing the exporting and importing, as you can import selectively several times and get excellent results. The project below started in C4D, exported to VW's and then back to C4D. 1-The images below started in Cinema 4D. The buildings were part of the C4D library, all solid white, could only be textured in C4D. 2-They were exported to VW's in .dxf format and broken down in Vectorworks. Then reconstructed with add solids in separate parts. 3-They were sent back to C4D to be rendered and animated. 1 Quote Link to comment
bcd
It can be helpful to include a scale object. eg. a 5m cube Quote Link to comment
