You might want to look into the Custom Tool/Attribute command.

You can create scripts with various attribute and tool settings.

Say you want to always draw a rectangle wtih a red line, dash style 3, 6 pt, and blue fill.

Select the rectangle tool, and set up all the settings in the attributes palette. Go to the Custom tool/attribute menu, check mark what you want the script to remember and click OK.

Give it a name and it will show up in the scripts palette.

Then you can just double click on that and draw away in the drawing with those settings.

If you don't want a tool to be selected for the script, make sure the 2d selection tool is selected when you go to the Custom Tool menu.
