Hardscapes Render Black

Smoore

Question

Hi there,

I've had this issue come up a few times over my last few projects. I've previously managed to find work arounds but never solutions.

Can anyone tell me why my hardscape objects render as black polygons rather than the textures I've assigned them? I have tried different renderworks styles, changing the individual textures on specific faces of objects, editing the style to change the texture used and probably a few other things that have been forgotten in fits of desperation!

My only solution so far has been to use a top/plan view but that isn't an option when I'm trying to produce 3D renders. Please see attached pictures to see the difference.

Any help/thoughts/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

I know I will sound like a broken record, but….it is totally Impossible to give you a solution without seeing your file…

If you are able upload the file, or a portion of the file if it is huge, so we can have a look 🙂

If your Hardscapes have multiple components, you should manage your textures from their Hardscape Styles.

Make sure each of the components in a given Hardscape Style have appropriate textures assigned, I like to do this using a 'by class' workflow personally.

Then go to the Render tab in the OIP and set the mode to "by component".

This will tell Vectorworks to display the textures assigned to each component.

Chances are, you have them set to "by object" and have the texture set to "none" or explicitly within the hardscape component.

No you're bang on Kevin - I was just hoping for an obvious quick fix. 🤞

So, deadlines made me find a work around for the file I used in my original post. However, it happens regularly so I created this simple file to demonstrate what happens.

Once again, I get complete black rendering once I switch to anything but a Top/Plan view.

I'm fairly sure I've followed what you suggested Jeff. Most of the Hardscape Styles are simply pulled from the Vectorworks library rather than ones I have created myself. However, I am looking to start creating more of my own Hardscape Styles so I'll definitely have to be more organised as I move forward.

Any help is greatly appreciated 🖖

The problem seems to be with Materials which use Tiles as the fill... Edit the 'Gravels Pebbles (Deco Gold) MT' Material + change the fill to a Hatch or Solid colour + the Texture will display... 🤷‍♂️

I have had issues with Tiles in other contexts + have filed bugs on it
