Flipped and mirrored text after publishing

kitkaye

Question

I'm having a text problem!

I have rotated a lot of my view ports and although the text is shown as correct in the file, it is exporting as upside down in some cases, and mirrored in others.

I have checked that adjust flipped text is turned on (which it is).

Does anyone have an incite as to why this is happening? or how to fix it..

It will be a horrible job to do manually as id have to physically compare every piece of text between the file and PDF (as the text is correctly orientated in the VW file and not in the PDF)

I have attached images to show an example of the file, the pdf and my settings.

I hope someone can help

Ill try to send a file tomorrow.

@Elite Exhibits

The text is on the annotation layer of viewports on sheet layers.

There are 22 sheets and most have between 1 and 4 viewports.

From what i can see, about 50% of the sheets have viewports with affected text.

But as i mentioned before, this is not actually visible in the VW file, just in the published PDF.

Hi,

Was there a resolution to this?  I've been having a similar issue with the program showing a channel label fine, but the PDF coming out upside down in a rotated viewport.  I've tried on different machines with different versions, and cross referenced settings with a similar style file of a different venue, and had no luck finding the issue.

Hello,

I had a user this week that had the same problem. It turned out that the viewport itself was flipped 180º in this case flipped horizontally. If this is true then the text will be flipped upon PDF export.

If the Vectorworks Preferences>Display > 'Accelerate Graphics' is on (which it is by default) then the text will appear correct on the sheet but export to PDF flipped. Turn it off and it will appear flipped on screen as well. This enables or disables the Vectorworks Graphics Module (VGM).

Cheers,

Peter

I've been having this issue recently a well, though only in one project file so far.

My viewports aren't rotated or flipped, but it's definitely happening to text that has been rotated or mirrored somewhere along the way.

It doesn't seem to matter whether my text is in the design layer or annotations (though most of my text stays in the annotations layer).

My only clue/indicator, prior to exporting, has been checking the insertion point of the text box - for example, if the X is bottom right, I know it's been rotated twice and will PDF upside-down. (This isn't helpful for text that's centered vertically and horizontally.)

At this point I would take a partial fix to show up in Vectorworks the same as it will export, but I've tried everything above with no luck.

Hi Brianna,

That is a very good observation about the insertion point.

There are three ways that this is controlled:

  • General Preferences>Display>Accelerate Graphics on/off. As above, this turns  On/Off the VGM.
  • Document Preference>Display 'Adjust Flipped text'.
  • Viewport>Advanced properties>'Adjust Flipped Text'.

It's tricky getting to the bottom of it but I think I've sussed it. If you have the Document Preference>Display 'Adjust Flipped text' Off, you can edit a viewport enter the Annotation Group and enter text and flip it, and it will read ok. Note the insertion point is bottom right. It reads ok because by default the Advanced properties>'Adjust Flipped Text' is on. The VGM doesn't affect this as far as I can tell.

When published to PDF, these flipped annotations are produced backwards and not what you see on the screen. I have a bug report about this and it's been hard to work out what's going on without your post so thanks, and I'll add all this to the report.

Cheers,

Peter

Good to have the notes about different ways to control this! I was aware of the "Adjust Flipped Text" setting and thought I had tried both ways with no luck.

Maybe I was going about it from the wrong direction.

You must have made the fix though! I upgraded to Design Suite last week, and since then, haven't been able to reproduce the problem, even in the same project file.

Thanks for your attention to this!
