MattSpotlight
Hi all, I'm trying to edit (in VW2024) a load of pre-existing seats on a document but the seat symbol for some reason is not showing up when using the seating tool. The seating tool is showing up other chairs, but not the one I need to use when I select it. I don't think it's a class issue as I have imported it into a blank doc and ensured all the classes are turned on. I also have the chair as an individual chair not in a seating section and it shows up ok. Any ideas?? Annoying Chair.vwx Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee klinzey Posted March 27 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted March 27 The "OCCC Chair 24" symbol contains no 2D. If you change to a 3D view you will see the chair. Because the Seating Section contains 2D, in plan view only the 2D elements will be shown. Quote Link to comment
MattSpotlight
Thanks Kevin. If that's the case, why does it show up when I have a singe instance of the chair when I'm looking in plan view? Quote Link to comment

If that's the case, why does it show up when I have a singe instance of the chair when I'm looking in plan view? When it's just placed as a simple symbol there is no 2D component so top 3D view shows in 2D. The seating layout adds 2D elements automatically so the 3D will be hidden. 1 Quote Link to comment
MattSpotlight
Thanks Kevin, I think I understand here. Can you advise the best way to make this work in the drawing? As I need to be able to show both 3D isos and also plan views with the symbols in place. If I trace the symbol outline now to add 2D geometry to it so that it shows in the plan view, that would then show up as lines on the floor in the iso view. Can you advise how I achieve my aim without these lines? Weirdly with this symbol I can't edit the individual bits of it's geometry, I'm not quite sure why? Quote Link to comment
Jesse Cogswell
There is a really fast solution for you. If you double-click your OCCC Chair 24 symbol and select Edit 2D Components, then right-click and select Generate 2D from 3D Component, it will build the 2D components for you. When you exit the symbol edit, it will throw a dialog box saying that the 3D Symbol is now becoming a Hybrid Symbol. Select Yes, as this is what we need. Once you do that, the seating section should work as you want it to. 1 Quote Link to comment
MattSpotlight
Thanks, this sorted it for me! Quote Link to comment
MattSpotlight
I have a new issue with the seating tool though. I have added in lots of seats now into the space. I've created seating spaces and used the tool to fill them, then added in some aisles and used the aisle tool to amend the seating area. The tool auto fills but even with "center out" selected, you can see that it doesn't fill from the edge of the aisle, it looks like it still fills from the centre, it just removes any chairs that were touching the aisle. This essentially means that we lose approx 5-10% of the chairs across the venue as it affects all of the seating blocks. I've gone through and edited this by moving all of the seats across to fill and then manually adding in more seats, but this then screws the numbering, see attached images. If I go back into the settings it then removes any of my changes so I can't get it to recalculate. I don't want to use the "Number Seats" in the context menu as there's 4000 seats so it would be too time consuming. Do you have any ideas of how to improve this? Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Scott C. Parker Posted April 10 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted April 10 Have you played with using the slice/split tool instead of the aisle tool to separate the seating into separate sections? It might serve you better. Can you share a file for testing? Just the seating layer. Quote Link to comment
MattSpotlight
Hi Scott, Please see below. I've just pulled the seating out. The classes are a little haphazard whilst I've been updating a previous year's version and trying to make this work! Seating Numbering Test Doc.vwx Quote Link to comment
