Daniel OKane
Hi, Could someone direct me to a training video on the Existing Plant Tool? I've figured out some quirks about it, but am still not getting what I want. It seems kind of awkward to use still: tagging, copying like plants then numbering in succession, species data. Since the tool exists, perhaps there is a comprehensive training video someone likes? Thanks! Quote Link to comment
Jeff Prince
I don’t know of a comprehensive training video. However, I find the best way (fastest, most accurate, easiest) to use the tool is to import a tree survey rather than try to populate the data in vectorworks. In the absence of a tree survey, just doing the data entry in an external spreadsheet alone is easier. I use an iPad with a data collector spreadsheet to do my field work. 2 Quote Link to comment
Poot
I agree with @Jeff Prince. Unless you are placing existing plants that are not trees...which I guess is possible. If you have a list of many trees and put it into a spreadsheet with relevant headers you can use to sort them and populate the right info. 2 Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Eric Gilbey, PLA Posted March 20, 2024 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted March 20, 2024 @Daniel OKane I wouldn't call it a training video, but this webinar, presented by landscape architect Anna Arbetter, does show workflows her firm, Futurity, uses when making use of importing tree data in the form of the existing tree objects. https://university.vectorworks.net/mod/scorm/player.php?a=173¤torg=articulate_rise&scoid=346 . Also, this video, which you can also view on YouTube https://youtu.be/NXUjlQHbNZA?si=h6Dd14J9k8MULo9C shows a new-ish feature, introduced to Vectorworks (because of the wishes Anna and David of Futurity) which enables the importing of tree data via GIS to make existing tree objects in Vectorworks. Thanks for reaching out about this feature. Best regards, Eric @Katarina Ollikainen 2 Quote Link to comment
Daniel OKane
Thanks for the help and responses. I had to show all plants on site for a VMP/Fire Dept Submittal. Survey was pretty vague on (e) plants. I added all existing plant material manually and added species data as needed. This then saved me time as a worksheet was produced automatically. See attached.
