Peter Telleman
Hi everyone, I have a videoscreen hanging under a truss, but at some distance under that truss, therefor it doesn't autoconnect to it. Obviously I'd like to have it connected to the truss so Braceworks uses it in the calculations. I've read several things on hanging position which suggests it's what I need, but I might just be very slow in understanding the explanations, because I can't get it done. I've attached a test setting to this topic. What I want is to have the LED screen attach to the truss, but both staying on their current position. Help please? lower screen attaching test.vwx Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee jcogdell Posted January 24, 2024 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted January 24, 2024 There are a couple of ways to accomplish this use the load tool to add point loads to the supporting truss or pipe structure where the screen will be suspended from. add an invisible pipe or truss that the screen is hung from (class it seperately to control visibility), and is in turn connected to the actual supporting truss or structure above with drops or hoists, effectively this is suimulating the structural part of the screen (or in the case of a LED wall the flying bars) where the rigging would be attached. If you are hregularly hanging LED walls and have the symbols for the flying bars you can go a step further and convert them into truss objects to roughly approimate the behaviour of the bars for Braceworks and to be able to reuse them in the future. Hello , how would you do a truss object exactly? I created a bar with bolt, D shackle, and sling , then created a straight truss object. and then played with magnets till I could align it visually well when doing the "insert connection tool --> placing Rigging Object below" ... yet im still getting brickwork "the static system is not supported" error no matter what I do !! any ideas how to achieve this best? Mike Wright
My approach to this is to create a lighting pipe with a square profile and attach the screen to this. I then use the connect truss tool set to 'dead hang bridle' (you will need to mess with apex heights etc to achieve this) at multiple points. See the attached. I set the tick marks on the pipe to match the spacing of the pickups on the header bar allowing me to snap the bridles to the appropriate point. You can also use duplicate array with the bridles once you have one drawn. This calculates nicely BUT, it does not exactly model the way the screen header will deform. I suspect there is no accurate way of doing this as a slab of LED probably behaves in a fairly exotic way given the huge variables presented by many hundreds of connection points, locking pins, weight imbalance etc not to mention the variance in your pickup roundsling lengths.
