View window controls

Question

Hello

Since converting from Microstation to Vectorworks 10 I've found it frustrating that with VW does not seem possible to open mutiple views of the same file in 2d as one can in Microstation.

This feature is very handy when drawing elevations & sections of a plan as different windows can focus on different areas of the drawing without the need for zooming in and out.

Is this possible ? Could it ever be possible?

Another issue is the, seeming, inabilty to rotate a view in 2d

rather than rotating the drawn objects themselves

Any help including alternative solutions would be greatly appreciated

Other than these issues i think it's a great application

Cheers

Sebastian

Sebastian,

Both of those objects are currently in the wishlist.

The only way to rotate the drawing in 2d, is to rotate it using the rotate command.

If the objects are 3d objects (like window PIOs and sumbols and walls, etc), they can be flat like 2d representation, yet you can still use the fly over tool to spin it around.

The mutiple views cross grid line in MicroStation and other higher end cad programs is not something you can currently do in VW either.

There really is not a workaround to this, other than creating several layer links and copying and pasting them on one layer spaces apart. Of course, this is only good for a full view layout. If you want to zoom in on a window or something more specific than a model display, it will require zooming in on each layer link object on the one layer. This of course is very time consuming and will require moving the page to view the differnt views.

If you just want to rotate the coordinate axes to make it easy to draw things that are not square with the world, as, for example, when working on the plan of a skewed wing of a building, that's easily done by specifying Grid Angle (numerically or by mouse drag) in the Set Grid dialogue box.
