mattryan
Hello All I am trying to model a wall with a triangular shape at one end. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can achieve this? I have modelled it in sketchup and can import the file as 3DS, but I would like to use the wall tool to build this. Any thoughts? Thank you Matt Quote Link to comment
zoomer
Still, VW Walls can't be slanted. You can model it by Generic Solids and manually tag it for BIM/IFC. To make a proper Top Plan representation you can create a Hybrid from it. You could maybe even use a Roof (Face) object. Quote Link to comment
Pat Stanford
Hard to tell from the two views if the wall is slanted (towards the building) as well as tapered (towards/away from the parking). As @Zoomer says, Slanted Walls are not available in VW. For the taper, you can use the Reshape mode. Draw the wall the maximum length. Double click the wall to enter the edit mode. Set the + option in the mode bar and add a wall peak at the bottom of the wall where it should end at ground level. Switch to the move move (first option, double arrow house icon) move the bottom peak at the end of the wall up to meet the top of the wall. 2 Quote Link to comment
line-weight
Although you can make it as @Pat Stanford says, I think you might then have troubles making it join with the horizontal overhanging roof element that you want it to be continuous with. 1 Quote Link to comment
Tom W.
If the wall does need to slant another option would be to build the roof as a Slab, use Slab Drainage to give it a fall, then model the side wall as a 3D solid + add it to the Slab using the 'Add 3D Object to Slab...' command. Then the side wall can be any shape/orientation you want. The issue then is that you are probably committed to using Horizontal Section Viewports for the plan representation of the model rather than Top/Plan. If you don't have a suitable Slab already set up + ready to use then perhaps no advantage to doing it this way + probably as well to just model the whole thing as a hybrid symbol like @zoomer says 4 Quote Link to comment
