Service Select Increase is Crazy - Not Impressed

My concern was directly about a sudden large increase

I just received a notice that my VSS will increase by 18% next year.  US annual CPI inflation is 3.4%, so this is a pretty big jump of ~15% in profits (I'm not seeing a ~15% increase in bug fixes, so I'll assume it's going for profits).  Previous year I had a 10% increase, so that's a 30% compounded increase over 2 years.  If I had to guess, the strategy is to increase at similar rates over the next few years until VSS = subscription rates.

My renewal for Designer is due this month, I haven’t seen much improvement since this change to subscription that gets me excited… the best thing is viewport styles, the rest has been largely fluff or the breaking of existing tools and workflows.  Each release seems to make this software less desirable ( color picker, UI/Icons, moving tools and menus around arbitrarily)

Imagine if we each paid a team of Blender gurus $1000 one time to make the tools we need, it would probably get done in weeks rather than years.

As a 36 years user, I had a shocking email as well. My subscription jump up from $725 to $1305.00. So I comtacted my former VSS supplier and he forward my concern to Vectorworks sales coordinator. And here is what I got.

"Vectorworks remains committed to supporting our Service Select customers and will continue to provide them with, new features, enhancements and ongoing support. We have accelerated our commitment to a continuous development cycle that will allow us to release new features when they are ready rather than one annual release, which will enable us to deliver higher quality updates and better support. In order to sustain this level of service and to keep pace with industry trends, we must occasionally review pricing and make adjustments as needed.

The Vectorworks Service Select program has only had two price increases since its establishment in 2009, which were during the launch of Vectorworks 2017 and Vectorworks 2020. This reflects our commitment to maintaining stable pricing for our loyal customers. Many of our early adopters who joined the program enjoyed the benefit of a significantly lower price compared to customers who joined at a later time, and therefore those customers may see a higher increase that is required to bring the cost to a level that reflects the program’s value. We strive to keep our prices as low as possible. Even with this price adjustment, our current rates are still lower than what many of our competitors are offering for similar products or services."

So basically from my understanding they will release the upgrade version whenever is ready. Who knows when, 2 years,3 years? So if that's the case, still pay annual of $1305 x 2 years before we receive an upgrade, I am basically paying $2610 for the upgrade. 3 Years? Maybe say time to retire…

Update: Received a confirmation

"There will be an annual upgrade to the latest version of Vectorworks every year. That has not changed. If you decide to continue with your Service Select membership, you will still earn the newest version upon its’ release, along with your other benefits.

To compare, your upcoming renewal is $1,305.00, if you were to not renew and switch to a subscription when you want to upgrade your license, an annual Subscription for your license type is $2,720.00. Staying a Service Select member is still the most cost-effective way to keep your license at the latest version year after year."

So there you go my subscription tripled price upgrade from the last 2017 price upgrade $200+. Not impressed at all Vectorworks...
