Ariel
Why do I have to get Renderworks to get shadows in Vectorworks? Shouldn't this feature be available in the basic package? ariel Quote Link to comment

VW licenses the ray trace renderer from Lightwork. This increase in cost is passed on to the customer by selling Renderworks as an add on package. Not everyone wants or needs to be able to render images, so NNA has chosen to give us a choice. Makes perfect sense to me. [ 11-21-2002, 08:35 AM: Message edited by: MikeB ] Quote Link to comment
0 Jershaun
Just as an observation, VW uses the classic engine from Lightwork. TurboCAD 8 uses the Full pro engine from Lightwork with Radiosity and to buy a new TurboCAD 8 pro in South Africa is cheaper than the upgrade I paid to VW10. Quote Link to comment
0 Ariel
Sorry, MikeB, but I'm not totally satisfied with your answer. I'm not asking for a ray trace renderer. I'm just asking for the ability to generate shadows and AFAIK other applications can already do that with OpenGL. Ariel Quote Link to comment
0 MikeB
I didn't think Open GL supported cast shadows. But I could be wrong Quote Link to comment
0 Kevin
Ariel; Take a look at this movie "What is SketchUp" http://www.sketchup.com/training.php The program has real time shadow rendering. Quote Link to comment

0 Ariel
Thanks, Kevin, but your message should have been directed to MikeB. Sketchup is exactly what I had in mind when I said other applications already use OpenGL to generate shadows. I just find it funny that I can place light objects in VW but still can't render shadows. What's the deal with that? Ariel Quote Link to comment
