Quality texture AND soft shadows

Kristen

Question

We are really struggling to achieve the same quality in rendering with 9.5.2 that we'd become accustomed to in 8. From what I've read in other posts, this is because RW no longer uses Quick Time? Even in Final Quality RenderWorks textures do not have the same quality that they had in RayMaker (especially "gridded" textures, like brick and tile, which I had used in 8 and recreated in 9 from the same image files). And, as far as I can tell, Final Quality does not allow for soft shadows. If I switch to mapped shadows, the quality of the textures seems to degrade still further.

It looks like the only option for getting renderings of the quality we used to get in 8 is to actually export to 8. Unfortunately, that's going to mean recreating and reassigning all the textures.

I guess that my wish is for someone to tell me that I'm missing some simple trick about textures and shadows. And my second wish is that in future versions RenderWorks will re-adopt whatever techniques were used in RayMaker.
