Hatches Creation

It's interesting to compare VW's hatch creation process with Autocad's (2000).Acad2000 doesn't even have a UI, you edit a text file directly (here is a sample);

There is however, another option in Acad, and that is to use part of your drawing as a hatch pattern (they call it 'superhatch').

This is quite a good approach, because it allows you to preview EXACTLY what you want, as intuitively as drawing normally. Basically, you draw your lines, you select them, then you "convert lines to hatch pattern".

Please coudl you redesign the Hatches Dialogue to allow people to easily and intuitively customise hatches and KNOW how they will appear at different scales [if they do change?] The exisiting box which has been there since Minicad 7 if full of complicated data fields and you can never veiw 2 types lines at the same time durinbg creation

It would be a BIG improvement to add the ability to simply draw a hatch pattern, select the lines and then convert then to a hatch pattern as suggested by Matt.

A few years ago I purchased a Vectorworks add-on product for version 8 that allowed you to do this, but this feature really should be added to the program.

Have a look at Motivo4 by Pietro Moras (vectordepot/market/motivo4), It creates a hatch by picking a drawing sample.

I think the unregistered copies of Motivo4 will allow you to create simple hatches (7 or less lines) for free.

I STILL think the issue is having a easy way to SCALE hatch patterns from the dialog window. Or even having the hatch scale relative to the layer scale would work better than it does now.
