break command

Question

Fred, Draw a line. Then draw another line which intersects the first at the point where you want to break it. Then select the first line and the second line (shift/click). Then go to the TRIM command in the TOOLS menu. When you are return to the drw'g you will have a hand cursor. Click it on the BISECTOR line, and voila! PLC

Yes, I know this action but compared to the AC break tool this is crap. In ac when you select the tool just click where you want the break to occur and voila, you have two lines. Just one step.

Fred, I'm SO sorry. It seems I've offended you. Next time I'll resist the urge to respond at all. PLC

There is one command I use a lot in autocad that breaks a line into two at a selectable point...I wish VW could do this, or , if it does, can someonw tell me where it is.

Fred,

There is a split by line/split by point tool in the Editing Tools Palette. If you select a line, then select the Split by Line mode of the Split tool, you can split a line by a point.

With the line selected, simply click on the line at the point you want the line to be split. The result is two lines that are selected. To move one of the lines, you need to deselect the lines, select the one line and then move it about.

I hope this is a tool you were looking for.

Katie,

I'm still in VWA 8.x (for plotting reasons) is this tool in that version - what you describe it just what I'm looking for. Cipes - No Offense Taken.. all input is valuable and very welcome here.

Fred,

Yep, that's a tool in VW 9.x. If you draw a line, click the tool with the split by point mode. Click on the line at the point you want the line to be split at and the line then becomes 2 lines based on that one point you clicked.

there's also command+t that cuts a line. Draw first line, draw second line where you want to split the first. With the second line selected, press command +t. You will now have two lines.
