3d drawing option

Jerry Baker

Question

I would like to be able to draw in 3d with an option to use the working plane or not to use the working plane for organic model building. Say for instance building something like a tree with round or cylidrical branches. It is way difficult to draw 3d additions along vaying x,y,z planes and then have it or what I have added look even close to being located on the model in the same place in a different view. I try using the working plane and think from looking at what I am doing is in the places that I want it all to be and then switch to the other view and whamm'o! Not a one is anywhere near where I though I put it. So just be able to draw and turn the model and draw and turn the model in real time would be cool as an option to ustilizing the working plane. Don't get me wrong I realize that the working plane option is way powerful and important... just not when you are working on organic model shapes instead of flat linear plaens.

There really isn't an option. Mouse moves are inherently 2-D, not 3-D, so we have to map your 2-D moves into 3-D space when you're modeling. Unless you snap to an existing point, this is done by intersecting the ray through the cursor position with the working plane.

How else do you think it should work?
