Flyover tool and Layers

Somehow I did something, and now the flyover tool will only rotate the active layer. It's not doing that on any of my other 3D drawings I have open, so it's unique to that particular file. I can't find any settings for flyover to toggle between all layers and active. 

 

I feel like this is one of those silly settings that accidentally got activated but I'm at my wits end how to correct it.

You need to turn Unified View back on.

 

In VW2022 and before this is in the View menu.

 

In VW2023 and later this is in Document Preferences:Legacy 2D.

Of course now I'm curious how I managed to turn that off considering the steps I needed to go through to turn it on....unless somehow the hotkeys were still active....

If you had it turned off when you imported an older version file it would stay off.

If you try to turn Unified View back on in the "Legacy 2D" section of "Document Preferences", you get a message, "Are you sure you want to enable legacy features?"! Well, yes, I would like that feature, but apparently you aren't supposed to use it? How does one keep one's layers coordinated when moving around in any 3D viewing mode?

Unified View is on by default. I don't imagine many people work with it turned off these days. But the Legacy 2D settings are there if you do need it turned off. But that's why it asks 'Are you sure?'.

The ability to turn Unified View off is the legacy feature.

 

I think the warning is just there because from that screen you COULD set up the file to use legacy features. Rather than checking exactly what you changed and having a different warning for each one, I think they just put a single warning whenever you make changes.

@Tom W. If your workflow is a single Design Layer - why is Unified View needed  ?

 

We do not need / use Unified View as we draw on a single design layer. Unified View has been a major aggravation to our work flow - see attached

 

Things disappear (Text - Dimensions) / things move / renders are missing objects and / or  textures / editing some components is quite convoluted.

yeah, this is happening to me. It was working fine an hour ago and now only the chairs are moving with Flyover, nothing else. I'm in 2024. Help? I cant find a Unified View anywhere.

@Tyrrellian Unified View has been "deprecated" and is now on by default.  It can be turned on and off, but requires a couple of settings changes to get to.  Go to File - Document Settings - Document Preferences.  Then select the Legacy 2D tab, check the Enable legacy 2D features box and uncheck Turn off unified view.  After pressing OK, you should be able to reopen the menu and uncheck Enable legacy 2D features again.

 

Even though Unified View and Screen Plane have been deprecated, they are still very much baked in to certain background processes within Vectorworks.  There is an existing bug/feature where if you navigate to a Design Layer from a Sheet Layer using an external script (like from a menu command or an embedded script in a plug-in object), Unified View becomes disabled.  It has to do with Sheet Layers forcing Unified View off (since you can only see the one layer anyway), so if you navigate back to a Design Layer with a script, Unified View is left off.  In my scripts and plug-ins, I force Unified View on anytime there's a chance that a user can go from a Sheet Layer to a Design Layer.

 

If you want a faster way to toggle Unified View off and on, you can create a Document Script with the line SetPref(94, NOT GetPref(94));
