Text tool killer

I would like a key, or key combination, to exit the Text Tool without needing to go to the mouse to select another tool. Possibly default to 2D Select tool.

How about hitting those ZXCV keys in between hitting those 1234567890 keys? X is the pointer. 1 is the text tool. Could this help?

Nope. Hitting any of those keys while in the text tool just gives me more text. Same while holding down option key (but other characters, of course). While holding down command key, I get cut, paste zoom in, zoom out, etc.

Try hitting the "enter" key before your other tool key.

The "enter" key exits the text box without exiting the text tool. Now you can hit your other tool key, the "C" key twice, for example, to zoom in, and your text block will remain selected but you will not get two extra "C"s in your text string.
