Selection tool

RayOlson

Question

Would like to see the selection tool become more "Autocad Like". Yes, all Cad programs have some nice features, even this one.

When you drag a selection box to the right everything enclosed inside it is selected.

When you drag a selection box to the left, items it crosses are selected.

Would also like to see a fence selection tool.

When you draw a line with this tool everything the line crosses is selected.

Would also like to see the ESC key used to exit out of a command, and some Function key used as a repeat last command button.

When you use the offset command, there should be a key you can press that would allow you to select different entity and then continue on with the offset command.

The alt-window selection is a step in the right direction, but if you happen to select through an entity a mile long, you get the whole thing.

The new split-by-line tool is another step in the right direction. Put the two together to select and split by a window/marquee - now that would really be a functional improvement.

Further, split by poly line, an irregular path, this would probably be way too much to ask.

In VW 9.5 - If you select an object by dragging to the right or the left, it makes no difference.

on the mac - if you hold down OPTION while dragging a marquee, it will select anything the marquee line touches as well as objects inside of the marquee.

on the pc - the same holds true when holding down the alt key and dragging.

Please note there is a lasso mode for the 2d selection tool that allows you to draw a free hand line around objects you wish to select. THE option/alt keys also function with this mode of the 2d selection tool. (If this is what you mean by a "fence selection tool".)

ESC can usually be used to end any function in VW. Is there a specific function that you cannot end with the ESC key?

Function Keys cannot be used in the program as they are set asside for operating system functions and we cannot override those functions. On the Mac and PC, these are usually used for a variety of other OS functions including shortcuts for launching programs. On the PC they are used in ms-dos commands mostly and for shortcuts to launching programs.
