Copying and pasting objects with different layer and class info results in the objects attaining the active settings. Same with grouping objects. This is sometimes usefull, but not usually. Maybe adding the shift-key to the command key would be possible when wishing to preserve object info. Duplicating objects is the only work-around, but can be cumbersome.
