Door Symbols in Walls

Erich

Question

Symbols cut into a wall the entire width of the symbol. This constraint limits the use of, say, doors with a 180 degree swing. Similarly, windows with sills extending wider than the opening will do funny things, create holes in the wall, visible in a 3D rendering.

You can do this now (VW 8.5 - I don't know how many previous versions as well). Place 2 loci in your symbol the location & width apart you want your wall break to be. If you leave out the loci, the break will be the full width of the symbol. This is for 2D symbols. Do the same with 3D loci for 3D symbols. Put them in the front view of your 3D symbol, at the corners of your desired wall cut. NOTE: you can use lots of 3D loci in the symbol to cut an irregular opening in the wall, not just a rectangular one; convex only, though - it won't cut a hole with an inside angle.
