OPTION A

- Open the library drawing containing the symbol. (This can be done through the Resource Browser by selecting 'Open Current Favorite'.)

- Select the symbol and Edit 2D Compnent - change the text as you want and then Exit

- Select the symbol again and Edit Insertion Options - change to insert in walls On Edge, and change Wall breaks to No break. Change the Other Options as you wish and then exit.

-Close the Library Drawing.

The symbol should then behave as you want it to when you import it into other drawings from the Library Drawing.

You can modify any of the Symbols in the Library Drawings in the same way.

It would be nice if there was a way in which VW would automatically discriminate between types of symbols so that it was only door, window and wall opening symbols which cut holes in walls, and the rest didn't.

OPTION B

Assign a class for your electrical information and draw using Class Options set to Show Snap Others.

The symbols then would not attach themself to, or insert into, the walls.

OPTION C

Draw with the second mode in the selection tool unselected. ie. ungrey the second mode - it looks like a piece of wall with a window in it and has two vertical blue arrows at each end of the window.

Any symbols you then place into the drawing will not interact with the walls.

This mode only needs to be on when you are actually wanting to insert doors, windows and openings into walls.
