PROBLEMS WITH DIMENSIONS IN VIEWPORT

DLDINYC

Question

WHEN I CREATE A VIEWPORT FROM AN ELEVATION OF A PRODUCT (IN A FRONT VIEW) THAT IS ON A DESIGN LAYER, THE DIMENSIONS AND NOTES LOOK LIKE THEY

STACK UPON ONE ANOTHER AT THE TOP OF THE VIEWPORT. ONLY WHEN I CHANGE THE VIEWPORT INTO THE TOP PLAN DO THE DIMENSIONS AND NOTES APPEAR CORRECTLY. BUT THEN THE DRAWING IS IN THE PLAN VIEW (NOT THE FRONT VIEW AS IT WAS NEEDED) AND DOES NOT ALLIGN WITH THE DIMENSIONS AND NOTES.

DLDI, there is a simple solution to your problem. Place your dimensions in the 'annotations' of the viewport instead of in the design layer.

Two comments: I agree that the behavior you have noticed is odd, and even perhaps is a bug. Also, you might refrain from using all caps in your posts. As has been said here before, it makes it look like you are SCREAMING. :-)

When setting a viewport to a view other than top view, the dimensions will need to be placed in the annotation portion of the viewport.

TO do this, copy your dimensions. Go to the viewport - double click to edit. Select Annotations, then paste in place.
