MGuilfoile
I feel this is an important topic that has also been around for almost a decade. I have imported a Revit model and it came in fine, but ultimately, all the parts are meshes. I expect this sort of conversion from a modeling software (e.g.,3D Studio) but not what I thought was a CAD program. Shouldn't they come in as some sort of mathematically defined shapes? I suppose that is a question for another day. It is not enough for a third-party model to import. It has to be at least minimally editable. This does not seem to be true with meshes, which is generally the format that imports. Apparently, VW cannot even put textures on meshes (well, you can, but you can't manipulate the texture mapping, so it is the same as having no map at all.) This is very disappointing since this complaint goes back almost a decade. Does anyone know if there IS a way to manipulate textures on meshes? For me, they seem to come is as "dumb objects," unchangeable in nearly every way. Thanks, MHBrown Quote Link to comment
MGuilfoile
OK. It may be a Windows problem. When I tried to scroll down in the render edit window it did not scroll as it does on my Mac version of VW. It did nothing, so I assumed that the texture could not be edited. When I manually expanded the render edit window, however, all the controls for editing textures came into view. These types of annoyances occur often in the Windows version, but never in the Mac version which is far more robust (if I don't restart Windows at least once a week problems begin. I have gone a couple years now without restarting my MacBook Pro.) I still have questions about mesh imports being difficult to deal with, but I don't think texture maps are one of them.
