Multiple signals/circuits in one socket

Recommended Posts

I think this is more of a workflow question than a technical issue. I have a device (camera control unit) that has a DB25 connector that serves many purposes, and thus many signal types and cables need to go into it. What is the best way to draw this?

For more information, the connector has tally, which I label as CTRL, two channels of intercom (labeled 4-wire,) and analog audio. So I typically have 3 to 6 individual cables in the one connector. If I simply connect them all on the drawing, the numbers overlap and it becomes unreadable.

Hi @Edward Carlson

In the Circuit Object Info Palette you can set the cable number to be displayed at only one end of the circuit.

When I used to design these before we had all these nice new facilities I used to give those intercom/tally connectors the same number for all since in any case it would be a special cable that got made up on site. By the way this would be a very cool use for a custom Adapter object if you are creating a breakout cable DB25 -> XLR, RJ45 or whatever. It's quite a neat way to do it installation-wise because you can do the soldering on the bench instead of behind the rack.

I knew about the number display. I number the individual cables with different prefixes, I for intercom, C for control (tally,) A for audio, etc. So I do want multiple numbers, but just not all on top of each other at the CCU end.

I haven't really explored the new Adapter object in 2023. But here's what I came up with based on the RGBHV adapter.

I think this looks pretty good for my purposes. Thanks!
