OK you motley bunch ! SPEED TEST TIME 😁

Still think the M2 is not a big deal?

Below is a link to a VW model. Don't worry (criticize) the model, texture or lights...that's not the point. The model's purpose is to deliberately tax your system. Open to the only sheet layer and simply render (update) the VP.

Our times. All Macs OS 13.2., VW 2023 SP3, no other software running. 70GB VW file:

12:40  -  2021 MBPro M1 Max 64GB ram ($ 4200)

12:23  -  2022 MacStudio M1 Max 64GB ram ($ 2600)

9:12   -  2023 Mac Mini M2 Pro 32 GB ram ($ 2000)

11:22  - Interestingly a buddy's identical MBPro, but running VW 2023 SP0B1

Of course our office would never render views like this in VW, but go to TM in a heartbeat. NO - not everything in VW is render time. But look at the 25%± speed boost with half the ram. My opening comments on this forum stand: The M2 Pro Mini is an excellent value for the price.

Shut up and render:

11:44 - 2021 MBPro M1 Max 64GB ram-OS 12.6.3 VW 2023 SP3

Pah,

19:04 - on my M1 Pure Mac Mini 16 GB

While Browsing Forums, eMailing and such things ....

No brownish memory BTW ...

I would also like the test the Trash Can,

(I would expect much more than 25 minutes)

but VW is a proprietary Software and can't be activated

on every of my machines.

I could even activate my Mac Pro 2.1 8 core cheese grater

under the desk .... but doubt VW 2023 SP3 will run on

OSX 10.7.5 !?

Well, but only

7:41 min

on my Ryzen 3950 16 core PC,

the uncrowned 2+year old king of old school CPU Rendering.

So it would need at least an M2 Mac Studio Ultra to

make me impressed ....

(Which is expected to be artificially delayed for a new

Mac Pro's presentation sake)

And I just did that that PC Render test as our heating is synched

with out side temperature only and we had strong winds with

more influence on warm loss and I had cold.

I assume VW is gathering all the posted times for their benefit, as well as ours.

There is a BUG on the time clock at the bottom of the screen. Sometimes (not always) if you click away to another program or desktop, the stopwatch on screen reports a much longer time than reality...you have o render again to see correct time.

It's helpful if people post the COST of their machine as well. As expected, higher end machines yield shorter render times. But valuing the cost to get faster renders is a factor.

Anyone want to Bar Chart the results posted? Would be interesting to see the cost vs performance in the same chart.

Even if you don't click away, it still gives wrong results (often shorter than the reality). Plus, I find it takes a while to start counting after I press the "update" button.

Retested with my trusty stopwatch - 18:40!

Assuming the computer was ~£2,000 i guess it works out as 56p/second. $0.69/second at today's exchange rate. - Don't think the maths is quite right there!
