Deleting/Detaching Unused Plug Ins & Assoc. Classes?

NicolaThread

Question

Hello All,

I inserted a Door plug-in into a drawing from the 'Building Shell' Tool Set, and subsequently decided I didn't want to use it.  I have deleted it from the 'symbols/plug-ins' section in the Resource Manager, but I can't delete the classes that are/were associated to it.  How do I purge it completely from my drawing??

Thanks.

That is a not so easy to answered question ...

The Door Plugin ?

That does not really make sense, as far as I understand.

If you want to model a 3D or BIM model containing Walls, Doors and Windows such things ....

You will want to use VW's PlugIn Objects (PIOs) - believe me.

😉

If it is just about not liking the default Classes (and their Naming) which VW provides automatically

when using their PIOs and more - I am 100% with you !

So if you want to draw a 3D, BIM or even 2D Model, it is wise to use VW PIOs.

But you will create PIO Styles and change their Class Settings to use your custom Classes and Settings.

Which will be saved in and accessible from the Ressource Manger (RM).

OK, so you have already deleted the PIO "Styles"

(which also contain the "Classes to create" definition)

What does this mean exactly  ? :

AFAIK, in VW you can delete any Class.

(* but you shouldn't, at least for some special Classes)

When you do delete a Class - VW may moan that the Class is still in use,

but AFAIK it will offer to delete the Class including the using objects,

at least it will allow to reassign these Objects to another Class of choice.

If you want to delete a Class that isn't in use, VW will not bother and just

delete the Class.

So I assume the Classes you want to get rid off are "in use" in some way.

It can be either that you deleted Door Styles in RM - but still have such

Doors in your Drawing.

- if you want to keep these - in their, now, "unstyled" way, go into their Class

settings and change all unwanted VW Classes to your own wanted Classes.

so the Classes should be "no more in use" and free to delete without VW

moaning.

Generally for the Purge Command.

You will most times need to run it a few times !

E.g. When you delete an "unused" Pio Style, this will free some other Classes

"after" the Purge Action, to be "no more in use",

which you can select for purging in your next Purge Action.

I hope I was not completely OFF the way I understood and answered your question....
