Finding Tech Notes on the web site

PeterT

Question

Why on earth are Tech Notes found on the web site under the heading "training" rather than "support", and why is the section called "How-To" rather than "Tech Notes".

I really don't care what you call them, but it seems to me the name of the document type ought to match the name reflected in the home page navigation menu.

If I want to find a "Tech Note" the first thing I am going to look for is a catagory called "Tech Notes".

Oh well, I know where they are now.

I've been seeing a lot more documents called "HOWTO" or "How-To" in recent months. There are a great many HOWTO documents associated with Linux, and that may be part of the reason for this trend; whatever it is, it's becoming fairly common.

Peter,

Thank you for your input. We in Technical Support are in slight transition phase regarding the website. We are in the process of revamping older Tech Notes, creating new ones and also adding a requested feature, ?How-To.? We do not have control over the actual location nor links on the site, as the Webmaster controls that. We do try to find problems and make recommendations for change when we see the need to. We cannot see all the problems, obviously, as we are not constantly looking for them. Our job is to help the customer find solutions to problems regarding the software.

This "How-To" section was created as a request by users for tips on "how- to" do a particular task, but not really a tech note (specific technical information not included in the manual). This was seen as beneficial as we would spend less time training on the phone and more time solving problems. I believe that if you check this link (http://www.nemetschek.net/support/index.html) you will find that under the Support link on the home page is the link to Tech Notes. There are, if you check again, two sections under the above link. One is "How To" and there is also "Tech Notes" just below it. The "How-To" page is cross-linked to the training link.

Unfortunately, there is limited space on the home page of our website for direct linking everything. We will ask the Webmaster to please make the links to Tech Notes more clearly designed. We wholeheartedly agree with you on this matter. Thank you again for your input.

To contact the Webmaster directly, e-mail webmaster@nemetschek.net .

Brian, I have to agree. I can't find a link anywhere for Tech Notes. When I found your link and looked it up, there was lots of tech notes that I felt should be incorporated into the How To section. Why not combine them? Might be because of the space issue you mentioned.
