Exportation & Printing DPI & Size

Question

I think an explanation of how changing the export and print parameters (within the Document Preferences interface)affects the subsequent results would be helpful, since there doesn't seem to be any detailed documentation on this.

Perusing the General Discussion forum, it appears there are a few questions about this topic(s).

Thanks.

Hi Jack:

There is an explanation dialogue that pops up when you move the cursor over each of these selections at the bottom of the preferences box.

Essentially, the "Export" only effects PICT and WMF files (depending on your O/S platform. This is how many dots per inch of paper are rendered for those files. The larger the dpi, the longer it will take to render, but you will have fewer "pixel gaps."

The "Printing" works the same way. If your printer is set at 600 dpi you will get 600 dpi resolution when set at 72 dpi in the "Printing" option. If you choose to increase this, do it in very small increments as it will increase the amount of print time needed.

Example, if you set it to 600 dpi in this dialogue it very well could take you all day to print. Anything over 200 is really unnecessary for most print jobs. Start with 72, then slowly build up from there.

I hope this answers your question.
