Project Sharing vs. Nextcloud

Rob87

Question

Hi there,

we are using Dropbox in our company and want to switch to Nextcloud because of several points (pricing, ISO certification...) I know there is a Dropbox integration for Project Sharing (ps), but not yet for Nextcloud.

The problem is, without integration ps is not working in real project environments.

As in every file sharing cloud system you have a server with the master file and clients with copies. They can make changes on a file and the file is uploaded to the server and then given to the other clients as the new version. With larger files you have longer upload times, usually ps files are the largest. While User A uploads a new version it is for user B still possible to also upload a new version. In this case the user with the slower upload will get a conflicted copy.

The problem now is, that during commit, check out or upload the master file has to be only accessible for one user, this is how ps works. In Dropbox there is a system (I don't know how it works) that detects any step made by any user. For example: User A made commits to the master and they will be uploaded. During this upload other users cannot check out our commit, there is the message "local copy is out of date... ...wait for the sync to complete..." In Nextcloud this is not the case. If User A uploads User B can also commit. One of them will get a conflicted copy. Maybe with deleting conflicted copies, refreshing etc. you will get it working again, but things like this one also can happen:

In this case User B can't commit anymore, but User A (admin) never changed any permissions or released any checked out items. Looks like a bigger problem.

Yes, I first created the project file and THEN moved it to Nextcloud as recommended.

In short, is Nextcloud integration a thing up to come in future SP / releases?

Thank you
