Additional modules for Vectorworks

hello all,
I wonder why there are so few add-on modules for Vectorworks. On the partner products page (Help menu in Vectorworks) there are not even a handful of companies.
What is the reason for this?
For Autocad there are thousands of applications, for Vectorworks nothing 😞

There are more add-ons than are shown on the Partner Products page. But they are hard to find.

 

Is there something specific you are looking for or are you just interested in the market?

 

IMNSHO, there are several reasons there are more add-ons for Autocad.

 

1. Market size.  There are many more seats of Autocad installed and used. This makes a bigger market for 3rd parties.

2. Price sensitivity. For years VW (originally MiniCAD) was marketed as a low cost system. This brought a lot of users in who had a great price sensetivity and who don't want to spend on add-ons.

3. Market Fragmentation. VW is used in architecture, landscape architecture, entertainment design and many other niches. This further reduces the market size for many plug-ins.

4. Corporate policies. The Partner Products program is only a few years old. Until this was in place there was minimal support from VW corporate for the marketing of 3rd party products. Very good support from the engineers on making 3rd party products works technically.

 

The above are my personal opinions, not in any way reflected by my role as a volunteer moderator of the forums.

This forum is probably the best way to find plug-ins :-).  

 

The partner program in VW is new(ish).  Maybe two years?  I don't know.  Could be more.  I can't tell time anymore.  I suspect that more people will be putting their plug-ins on there in the future.  

 

But you are correct that there needs to be more.

 

Until then, you can just ask here on the forum.  These sites all have multiple plug-ins.  Many that I personally use every day.

So far as I see for Autocad behavior - it does not really help.

 

Did not miss any VW Plugins so far - beside one or two Marionettes ....

i am searching for a tool to make roofs in order to make afterwards an output for hundegger...

I do not believe that anyone has written such a tool.

 

It can certainly be done, but the effort and cost would greatly depend on how complicated the roofs you are doing are.

That´s right. But if you have no parametric to draw a screw or a cabinet or whatever, then it is better to work with autocad if there is a plugin for that...

Maybe you´re right that this forum is the best way. But i wonder why aren´t these companies listed there?
Does the marketing departure of Vectorworks need 2 years and more to list all potential tools at this partner product page?

VW will add anyone who complies with the requirements to be a Partner. The issue is that so far many companies have not decided to put in the effort to enter the Partner Program.
