"no valid serial numbers have been found. please enter one now."

AMPD Computing Services

Question

Hi All,

We have a license server setup for Vectorworks 2023.

We also have Mac and Windows 10 client machines bound to our domain.

On the Macs, everything works beautifully.

However, on the Windows 10 machines, every time a new person signs on, Vectorworks 2023 says "no valid serial numbers have been found. please enter one now."

If we enter the serial number, that user will be fine for that login and subsequent logins; however, when a new user signs in, we are back to the serial number request.

This was not the case for Vectorworks 2021 on the same Windows 10 client machine.
I've contacted Tech Support, but got the generic respond of we got too many requests, check the community boards and knowledge base online message.

I've checked the Forums and KB, and haven't found this issue mentioned.

Any one else with this issue?  Has anyone resolved it?

Thanks.

Hi,

We have (had) this problem too.  What I've noted is that it works for the user that installs the product but not for any other user.

I'm currently working on a script / GPO to import the following reg key into the user's hive at login but it does mean we need to store the serial in plain-text on each device where VectorWorks is installed but as it's in the registry in plain-text too I don't see this as an issue as the key is linked to our license server.

reg file (replace the string with your serial)...

###############################################################

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Nemetschek\Vectorworks 28]
"ExecutablePath"="C:\\Program Files\\Vectorworks 2023\\Vectorworks2023.exe"
"InstallDir"="C:\\Program Files\\Vectorworks 2023"

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Nemetschek\Vectorworks 28\Registration]
"Serial Number 0"="SAMPLE-SERIAL-SAMPLE-SERIAL"
"First Time Run"="0"
"User Serial Number"=""
