More symbols

Recommended Posts

All the symbols that were in SpotLight 8.5 are in SpotLight version 9. In fact, there are more symbols because we added to the libraries and created metric versions of all the symbols. They are located in the VW_SpotLight folder. If you do not see them there, perhaps (if you did a custom install) they were unchecked and therefore not installed.

In addition, you can take any of your own 8.5 files, open them in Version 9 and save them as VectorWorks 9 file. Voila, all of your 8.5 symbols will now work with version 9.

kasey,

I have reinstalled my spotlight, and the symbols that I used in the 8.5.2 version are still not there. I made sure to check both metric and imperial symbols. The symbols that are in question are the USITT and city theatrical symbols. The reason I am using the USITT symbols is because the ETC symbols that are given in the VW_Spotlight folder don't give the degree measurements when placed on angles, and the grid that I currently use has pipes that are at 30 degree angles. However, the USITT symbols give the measurements because they use hatch lines instead of numbers. Is there a way that I can load those symbols into VWSL9? When I try to open the certain file from the 8.5.2 version, I get an error message that says that they are not the right version and then it says to open the file and resave it. But, it looks like it only opens one symbol. What do I do? Can I download symbols from somewhere?

I am sorry, I don't use the City Theatrical symbols, but I do use the Symbols_Theatrical Lgt under the toolkit>specialties>theatrical lighting folder.

These are the oldest version of the symbols, and have become obsolete by SpotLight. You should be able to open the 8.5.2 file and save it as a version 9 file and use the symbols in version 9. Also, you can modify the current symbols and add the hatch lines.
