Graphics Cards / Renderworks

This is far to broad a question to expect a "use so and so graphics card. You need to look at all the aspects, what machine you are getting etc, platform you run on, other software it will be used with. Just getting the fastest of everything isn't really a good way to buy.

There is little point in buying the fastest card available if the rest of your machine creates a bottleneck and can't keep up.

Its a question, as with so many things in life, of a balance.

Maybe go to a specialist dealer who will build a machine suitable for your requirements once you outline these in detail to them.

If I recall correctly, the rendering speed is dependent upon the CPU and not the Video Card. Do a search on this board and you should find threads addressing this issue.

Your question of which video card works with VW is a question that I share too. Unfortunately, NNA will not comment. I don't expect endorsement, but I do expect info on what incompatibilities might exist.

I beleive NNA is paranoid about recomending anything that could come back and bite them later when a user is not happy with the performance. I beleive the speed to Render a image is based on cpu power. A graphics card would have a effect on speedy redraws like scrolling through a drawing, open gl rendering (walk throughs), game play, etc. So If I it is static renderings you want get the best cpu and a lot of ram. If it is walk throughs then go for a better graphics card. I think 128 mb of video ram is the norm now for games or intensive stuff. there seems to be not that much price difference between cards. nvida or ati have several cards out even a 256 mb card I beleive. most retailers give you a 15 or 30 day return policy if you are not happy.
