Stefan B.
Hey, Fairly new user in Vectorworks here. We collaborate with several that use Cast Soft Wysiwyg as their design platform, but we want to spend our time where we are most useful, in Vectorworks. So, yesterday i did a DWG import from Wysiwyg to Vectorworks. And it was horribly slow to work with afterwords. Adding rigging points took up to 30 second each, and panning around was very slow. This absolutely improved when turning most classes from the DWG import off, but still it was very slow. Cast soft does not provide many options to their export other than what you want their file to be named. Vectorworks provide several options to and import. So my question is, does someone have a good practice to importing DWG files from Wysiwyg? Vectorworks Spotlight 2023 Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee jcogdell Posted October 20, 2022 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted October 20, 2022 What import settings did you use in the Import DWG dialogue? There are a number of settings in the advanced section that may help, including the new option to only import the DWG layers you want. You can also control how the DWG blocks import and control how the DWG layers are imported (converted to classes, which Spotlight layer the DWG classes will be imported into and give them a prefix so you can easily identify them and control their visibility. Another thing to check is how many resources your active file has after importing the DWG, depending on how well the DWG was prepared for use in other software the import process can create thousands of resources, in some case a symbol for each line in the DWG. This can have a huge performance impact. Are you drawing directly on top (same layer) of the DWG in Spotlight? Best practice is to make sure all the DWG content is on its own layer, so you maintain better control of the your file. Another possibility that may help is asking the Wysiwyg users to use a different file format, wyg now supports (parially) the new MVR format which can be used to get the design into Spotlight. your will likely still have to convert things like trusses and lights into their Spotlight versions, but it may give you better results. Though in my experience this normally works better when the design starts in Spotlight rather than in Wyg. Have you contacted your local distributor, Dekantus for help? Scott Campbell will be able to help you with the DWG import process as well 1 Quote Link to comment
Walter Lutzu
Yes, I confirm. MVR from Vectorworks to Wysiwyg works very well if you start to design in Spotlight, also merging parts of the project. I never try from Wysiwyg to Vectorworks Quote Link to comment
AnthWhite
Wyg has MVR now. I recommend going that route. From vector to wyg with MVR works pretty well. Haven't had to go the other way. Also, import layers as classes. Wyg truss is just grouped together pipes, which may be what is causing vector to take a long time to respond. Quote Link to comment
Endre Torkildsen
Did you save the file, close and re-open? I often have had the same happend to me when import large dwg`s, without save.. Quote Link to comment
