Question

It would be great to have a way to tell if a file had been copy/pasted from another or if pieces (like lighting instruments) had been pasted straight in.  Maybe there is some sort of digital signature that tells us from which file it originated or something.  As a professor, I'm often trying to gauge if a student turned in something that is not theirs or if they copy/pasted a large part of a light plot, etc.  I like the idea of this being a bit incognito too so that as a professor I could quietly check it when they turn in their VW file.

Some years ago I posted about a problem and a user diagnosed my file for me and told me when certain objects were created and what version of the software they originated from. I imagine there are back-end tools that show the developers and tech support similar information to what you need - It will be interesting to follow this thread!

I don't remember the names, but a set designer was teaching a set design class somewhere. A student turned in their design for some show. The teacher praised the design at length, then added a message about when stealing a design off of the internet, it is best NOT to steal teacher's design.
